Difference between 것 and 기
것[걷]
1. A bound noun used to refer to a thing or fact that is not specified or determind by someone. (정확히 가리키는 대상이 정해지지 않은 사물이나 사실)
마실 것 좀 줄까? Would you like something to drink
입을 것만 가방에 넣어. Only take clothes you are going to wear
2. A bound noun used to indicate a certain act, situation, or accomplishment. (어떤 행위나 상태, 일을 나타내는 말)
티파니는 리아랑 말하는 것을 좋아해요. Tiffanie likes to talk to Lia.
저는 여행가는 것을 좋아해요. I like traveling.
3. An expression used to indicate that the statement is a guess. (아직 일어나지 않은 일에 대한 예상이나 추측, 계획을 나타내는 말)
you think it’s going to~
It seems like~
내일 비올 것 같아요 It seems like it’s going to rain.
진짜 재밌을 것 같아요 It seems like it’s going to be fun.
4. -은 것
An expression used to enable a non-noun word to be used as a noun in a sentence or to be used in front of '이다' (be)
(-명사가 아닌 것을 문장에서 명사처럼 쓰이게 하거나 ‘이다’ 앞에 쓰일 수 있게 할 때 쓰는 표현)
리아가 가져간 것은 책이다. It’s a book that Lia took.
차가운 것은 먹지 마라. Don’t eat something cold.
기[기]
1. A suffix that makes the word a noun or an ending of a word used to make the preceding word function as a noun.(앞의 말이 명사의 기능을 하게 하는 어미.)
된장은 만들기 어렵다. It is hard to make Dwenjang.
내 취미는 음악듣기이다. My hobby is listening to music.
Wow! They are similar but quite different!
